Buffett Concert Entertains and Encourages; but Misses Chance to Educate and Engage

Jimmy Buffet has been able to build and maintain a consistent brand that encourages his fans to forget about their cares and have fun!!  He represents a lifestyle that many of us would like to emulate and enjoy.  His live free concert sure delivered all the entertainment, enjoyment and excitement one would expect from Jimmy and his Coral Reefer Band.  I have collected the concert reviews and a set list (including which songs they played after the broadcast ended.).  Keep reading to watch his revised version of “When the Coast is Clear” – along with complete new lyrics.  My only question and concern is why this major TV event did not include any way for the viewers to gain more information or donate money to an established group like the Red Cross?  Did the organizers, conservative country TV station and local leaders want to avoid any direct mention of the BP oil disaster?

Polls Show Americans are Worried, Angry and Blame Everyone for Oil Spill

Public awareness and opinion about the BP oil spill is an important topic for shaping public policies and programs.  Since the disaster started, a number of national polls have been conducted to measure the reaction of Americans to the spill, as well as the capability and credibility of the main actors involved.  All these surveys have been done by well-known, professional firms and include just over 1000 adult respondents.  These surveys have a margin of error of just over four percent.  Over the past three decades I designed dozens of surveys like the ones reported here.

Oily Gulf is Legacy of Cheney’s Corrupt, Crony Capitalism

As we learn more about the causes of the BP oil spill in the gulf it becomes clear that the federal government failed in its responsibilities to oversee the safety of the gulf and the environment.  There has been a culture of corruption within the Minerals Management Service that promoted a hand’s off approach to the risky and powerful oil industry.  The origins of this lack of oversight can be laid directly at the door of former US vice president Dick Cheney.  In this BLOG post you will find some recent articles that document how Cheney abused his power and position to benefit himself and his cronies in the oil industry.
